Brightly Pro User Guide
Brightly Pro for macOS features a simple, single-window interface that allows you to make quick lighting corrections to your photos and videos. The interface consists of the Photo/Video window at the center, the Toolbar at the top, and the Magic Bar at the bottom. Crop, Share, and Adjustments are available from the Toolbar.
Photo/Video
The Photo/Video display shows the current media that you are editing.
Show Original
Click and hold on Show Original to compare your edits with the original.
Tip: Use the keyboard up arrow, down arrow, or o key to toggle Show Original.
Zoom
Right-click on the Photo/Video display to bring up the zoom menu that has multiple zoom options.
Toolbar
The toolbar at the top of the window gives you access to quick actions. The actions include import, zoom, Crop, Share, and Adjustments.
Click the Import icon to import a photo or video from a file, a Photos library, or the camera.
Click the Zoom icon to select preset zoom levels or zoom to fit your photo or video to the window.
Note: The zoom percentage may represent the current working image size and not the full image size.
Click the Crop icon to hide or show the sidebar that lets you crop your photo.
Click the Share icon to share your photo or video.
Click the Adjustments icon to hide or show the sidebar that lets you make adjustments, like contrast, saturation, and many others.
Crop
Crop reframes, centers, and aligns your image. Crop can be accessed from the Toolbar.
On the image, drag any edge or corner to reframe the image. To rotate, use a two finger rotate motion on your trackpad.
Click Aspect to select a predefined frame defined by an aspect ratio.
Click Rotate 90° to rotate the image 90° clockwise.
Use the Rotation Offset slider to rotate the image an arbitrary amount.
Click Reset to reset all crop parameters to their default values.
Click Cancel to ignore all changes.
Click Apply to apply all changes.
Share
Share your photo or video through email, text, and others; or, save them to Photos or a file. Share can be accessed from the Toolbar.
Adjustments
Reset Adjustments
Some adjustments have a tick mark. Click the tick mark to reset the individual adjustment to its default value.
Click Reset Adjustments at the bottom of the sidebar to reset all adjustments.
The Magic Bar is not affected by resetting adjustments.
Magic Bar
The Magic Bar uses special algorithms to automatically balance the light and shadows of your photo or video to brighten your photo where it needs it most.
The bar is divided into seven squares with a thumbnail preview of the results. The center square shows a medium light boost. Click any square to quickly go to that square. You can also drag the blue selection square to any position along the bar.
Tip: Use the keyboard left arrow and right arrow to move between preset levels of the Magic Bar.
Preferences
Preferences can be accessed from the Menu Bar.
General
Show Welcome Screen - Check this to show the Welcome Screen, which shows examples photos to try.
Use App Sounds - Some interface elements use sound. Check this to use those sounds.
Process Live Photos - By checking this, Live Photos will be processed and the photo and video will both be exported.
Advanced
Geotagging - Check this to allow photos to be tagged with location information.
Menu Bar
The Brightly Pro Menu Bar provides app specific actions that can also be accessed through keyboard commands.
